Once again the Annapolis chapter of the MSSA is teaming up with the EVAN Foundation www.theevanfoundation.org to sponsor the fifth annual spring rockfish tournament benefitting the EVAN foundation. The tournament starts opening day of rockfish season and runs through May 1st.

For a modest donation of $100 made to the EVAN Foundation, any MSSA member can fish the entire tournament, be eligible for an incredible bunch of prizes thanks to the generosity of many sponsors, and be treated to a free awards cookout.

It's a fun and growing tournament, great camaraderie, and cool prizes. Most of all, though, you will be making a big difference for kids and families impacted by neuroblastoma-a rare and deadly pediatric cancer.

You can enter the tournament online by visiting the MSSA Annapolis Chapter website www.mssaannapolis.com or in person at Marty's, AllTackle, or Island Tackle Outfitters. Please take a look at the attached tournament flyer and let me know if you have questions.

This is a great tournament to enter. No need to kill a big Rockfish to win - a clear photograph on a measuring stick is proof enough.

Great if you have a small boat - with this many days to fish , almost has to be few that are suitable to fish.

Although started by a tragedy - it is an awesome cause and benefits so many young children. In other words - no reason not to enter.

This is great event for a good cause. Entering is a no brainer - you feel good for helping a great cause, there is a free party and every fish entered last year walked away with something. What makes it really fun is that it turns every day on the water this spring into a fun tournament. Give it a shot. Best of all is you can help make a difference.

FYI: If you could not read the flyer. Money raised goes towards providing toys / treats to young kids at the hospital - helps brighten up their day.

Some of these kids are in long term care and spend a lot of time cooped up in hospital room. Just imagine how great it is when a cart full of goodies is wheeled in.

Hard to believe the spring season starts in just a few weeks. You can access the tournament entry form by visiting the Annapolis MSSA website http://www.mssaannapolis.com/evan_tournament.php or pick one up at Marty's in Edgewater, AllTackle in Annapolis, or Island Tackle Outfitters on Kent Island. A $100 donation makes every fishing trip a small tournament, supports a great cause, and makes you eligible for great prizes and a free awards cookout. Look forward to seeing everyone on the water.

Bob,

This looks like a great tournament and mission that could benefit from the same "Live Leaderboard" system we use for tourney's that incorporate Special Anglers.

This tournament would look good with its own Live Leaderboard. See the example of how I used it for a fall tourney and one coming up April 16th:

Here is link to a small Catch-n-Release tourney we ran last year: http://content.fishdispatch.com/Leaderboards/SpecialAnglerVMRCLeaderboard.html

Please make sure to join the Annapolis Chapter of the MSSA for the annual EVAN Foundation spring rockfish tournament awards ceremony and cookout on Saturday, May 14th at 5:30 PM at the beautiful Chesapeake Harbour Marina in Annapolis. All MSSA members are welcome to attend. Bring your friends, spouses, and kids. There will be great food sponsored by Adams Grill and Tap House, adult and non-adult beverages, door prizes from tournament sponsors, serious and non-serious fishing talk, and a whole lot of fun. Please join us and even though there will be plenty of Adams food, you are welcome to bring a side dish and a lawn chair if you can. Look forward to seeing you Saturday.

Report on 5th Annual MSSA Annapolis Chapter/EVAN Foundation Spring Trophy Rockfish Tournament

Thanks to everyone who participated in the 5th annual MSSA Annapolis Chapter/EVAN Foundation Spring Trophy Rockfish Tournament. I can't begin to tell you how gratifying it is to be a part of this yearly event. The Maryland-based EVAN Foundation www.evanfoundation.org funds research on the deadly pediatric cancer neuroblastoma and supports families that are contending with this horrible disease.

This year we had a record number of tournament entries, a record number of fish checked in during the tournament, the largest fish ever checked in for first place, and the biggest turnout ever for the awards cookout held last Saturday at Chesapeake Harbour Marina in Annapolis. When everything is said and done, we expect that this year's tournament will raise upwards of $10,000 for the foundation.

Thanks very much to the major sponsors of this event: Marty's Bait and Tackle, AllTackle, Island Tackle Outfitters, Adams Taphouse and Grille, MSSA Annapolis Chapter, Chesapeake Harbor Marina, and Kramon & Graham law firm. BFG Tackle, UnderArmour, West Marine Glen Burnie, the MSSA main organization, Holiday Inn Kent Island, Minuteman Press, Annie's Steakhouse, The Jetty, The Narrows, Universal Marine, Fisherman's Inn, Big Bats Café, and others donated valuable prizes for the awards cookout.

The awards cookout was unbelievably well-attended and in spite of having to dodge a little rain, we had a record turnout-probably because of the great chicken and barbeque donated by Adams Taphouse and Grille. Every single entrant that checked in a fish during the tournament received a valuable prize thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, and everyone went home with cool EVAN Foundation swag. Brian Zagalsky and the Zagalsky family made a special donation of toys and other treats to the Evan Foundation for the foundation's Treats and Treasures cart that visits the pediatric oncology unit at Children's Hospital every Wednesday with toys and goodies for the kids being treated there.

2nd Place: Andrew Wendell 47 ½ inch rockfish
3rd Place: Paul Mellin 46 5/8 inch rockfish

2nd Place: Brian Zagalsky 40 ½ inch rockfish
3rd Place: Will Muscatello 40 5/16 inch rockfish

Thanks to MSSA volunteers George Brown, Dan Dirks, Rick Nadolny, Jean and Rick Holmes, Ed Kalb, and Kevin McMenamin for ensuring the tournament and the awards event went smoothly. Attached are some photos from the awards cookout.
