How much trailer can I get for $3500? I love my 23' Pathfinder but trailer is 5 yrs. old w/ lots of rusting going on. My current trailer needs complete re-build. & I'm thinking new.. any brand names or manufacture that you'd recommend & why..
Thanks, Havana Banana

Ill second Bob's in Norfolk. I was in a pinch and needed one now, went over there and he had what I needed, in stock, in galv. and aluminum.

I ended up with a 7800# cap, dual axle, dual disk brake, galvantized bunk trailer for $3000 cash.

After the terrible rusting of a couple of galvanized trailers, I decided to go with an aluminum one. Purchased a Venture trailer last summer and just love it. A place on Route 17 in Newport News carries them as well as Crown Point Marina just across the York River bridge--which is where I got mine. This would be within your price range as well!

Go with an aluminum bunk. No rollers to replace and I load/unload my 23' Grady by myself with no problems. Rollers do have the advantage of not dipping your wheels and can be helpful on short ramps. You need to consider what it is you need to deal with as far as ramps go. The aluminum also has the no rust and weight advantage over galvanized. Get a trailer rated at least 15-20% over what you feel the maximun combined weight of the trailer/boat (including fuel) and equipment will be. Coolers, rods, weights, ice and all the incidentals add up fast.

Do a google for Road King Trailers. Aluminum I beams with a lifetime warranty. They will come to you to fix the trailer, they seem to really stand behind them. Sports Marine on 17 carries them.

Been there done that, I've been thru this evolution in the last year...dealt with all the usual suspects...what I learned...

Bobs...some here gave a favorable opinion of him but I when dealing with him on a Venture Alum trailer I got a great price from him at the boat show and wasnt ready to buy yet because i hadnt closed the deal on an out of tow boat...closed the deal a week and a half later and after he stated his price was good as long as he had THAT trailer I found a substantial price increase (Over $500.00) when I came to pick it up...along with the price increase he was trying to bait and switch me to a galvanized trailer...the EXACT TRAILER (VIN#) HE HAD QUOTED ME ON WAS ON HIS YARD... all the dealers in Richmond ad via Craigslist were about the same as Bobs...in the mean time someone had recommended S&S...went there...got a triple axle LOADMASTER with more options for $300 more than his original quote on the cheaper Venture...long story short...I would ever deal with anyone but S&S...

Load Master

You won't be sorry if you get a Loadmaster. Very good quality trailer and they are very well backed. Whom ever you purchase from, don't let them talk you out of getting the stainless upgrades. When I was in the market a few years ago, the local Loadmaster dealer was trying to talk me into one of his in-stock trailers. All had galvanized hardware. He told me all metals are going to rust and the SS upgrade wasn't worth the money.

That comment sent me to Steve at East Coast Trailers. If you get a Loadmaster, check out Steve at the following site: East Coast Trailers This guy is all about service. He's also a fisherman and has some pretty good fishing story's from the Florida coast.

need new trailer(need opinions)

i don't think that a 5 year old trailer needs to be replaced. i am sure it needs some work however you can completely rebuild the trailer for a lot less than buying a new one. That is, of course, if this is a galvanized trailer. steel painted trailers are a problem and most of the time can not be made new again. i have use Maryland R V in Annapolis, to solve this problem. i believe they could save you a bunch of money in repairing rather than just "throwing" it away.
