Nice Stripers Still Abundant at the CBBT
With Larger Ones Coming​

This year is almost over and the following pictures are from guided trips at the CBBT during the week of 12/15/08. I will be down in VA looking for larger stripers the first week of January 2009 (sorry all booked up).​

Most Productive Lure: 7" Bass Assassin, Chartreuse Glitter or Albino rigged on a 1 ounce jighead.​

Most Productive Technique:
After locating the fish, drift across them and cast out. Count the lure down, keep the rod tip just above the water, moving it from 12 o'clock to 10 o'clock horizontally while jigging. ​

I had the pleasure to guide Will Kaline, Cedric Spriggs, and Frank Barile. We got on stripers from 22" to 29" from 7:30am until 12:20pm. This crew landed over 250 stripers using the above technique. ​

I enjoyed the company of Bill Johnson of the M&M Bunch. He introduced me to the pictured 2 ounce butterfly spoon. There are normally 2 hooks, but one was removed to protect the stripers during catch and release. ​

This is the 1st lure that caught stripers while vertically jigging for me at the CBBT this year. They were stacked up on the tubes. This is a fish catching lure.​

WOW - that is some serious catching :clapping2:. Shame the spoon got chipped up - now it will not catch anymore .

Glad the striped ones are plentiful. Hope it stays that way for Jan and Feb like last year. We had a great trip the first week in March but the winter and water were warmer.

Hey Tom great post. I've used the Butterfly Jig up to 6oz. while fishing in Florida on the wrecks. They work great for Grouper,Snapper,Jacks or what ever else is lurking on the bottom. Tried them a few times in the bay but didn't have any success. I wish they would make them a little smaller for the bay.

Sounds familiar!

Have used same type of jigs to get down to the bottom in current off off Cape Cod, Mass, and had success with similar size fish. Good to know. Hope to get down soon, but missed a trip due to family death about a week ago.
