Plan was to head for the Southern edge of the mass of warm water at the poor man's to avoid the crowds at the washington and baltimore while hopefully putting a few tuna in the box. Weather was nicer than predicted, just a small gentle swell with the occasional larger leftover swell mixed in.
Arrived about 8 and basically had the whole place to ourselves, one or two other boats roaming around in the distance. Found a nice 4 degree break with 72 on the warm side and starting setting lines out into the deep. Found a few whales milling about in the deep water but didn't get any bites out there. Worked back into 100f and had a double, put 2 50 yellows in the box. Didn't get all the lines back out and get another in the 20's. Tried to set the lines again and failed, this time due to a nice mahi. By now we are up on the flat and finally manage to get the lines set and fish boxed and cockpit cleaned and here comes a small plane....Bring the boat around to get back to the 100 for a 2nd pass and he starts circling us. We get hailed on 16 by what it turns out is a navy scout. He informs us they about to start live fire missile tests and we are in the target box, son of a !?!?! So much for a perfect plan. Beat it out of the poor man's before the missiles started falling.
Decided to follow the 100 up to the Baltimore and work the pot line looking for mahi and maybe a few more tuna. Turns out the pots weren't there, but we did get another nice mahi to bite that jumped his way off the hook just as he was getting close enough to stick with the gaff.
Got to the Baltimore too late for the morning bite and only managed to pull off a small mahi and boat a micro tuna that got released.
Finished 4/4 on yellows and 1/3 on mahi, not a bad day. Pretty sure we could have filled the boat had we been able to stay in Poor man's though.

Marc, Good trip! Too bad you got chased off your spot by the Missile tests. There seems to be some good water down there in PM with that 4 degree break. I am looking at going possibly sunday if the forecast holds. May end up running on a friends boat out of IRI instead of dragging my rig down to OC.
