Looks like a "run-of-the-mill" Garden Spider [wink]

garden spider (Argiope aurantia) an orb weaving spider. It's fun to feed them grasshoppers...

 

wow.....it appears to be a fairly common species. i've never seen one before.....

Black & Yellow Garden Spider, completely harmless.http://www.fcps.k12.va.us/StratfordLandingES/Ecology/mpages/black_and_yellow_argiope.htm I see them in my blackberry bushes once in a while. Sorry ragnad, didn't see that you posted a link to iit.

Orb Weaver...

Strap on a pair.

 

I spent a week last year laid up due to a brown recluse spider bite, They all die now. Sorry.[sad]

 

They are very cool. We usually have one or two in our yard. I think they are the one that, when threatened, will rock back and forth to try to look more menacing. They also use the rocking motion to catch insects that get close to the web. Don't kill non-poisonous spiders!!! They do much more good than harm. Move him if you want to a bush.

 

We use to call them writer spiders because of thier elaborate webs

Had one build a huge web between pilings on my pier yesterday. Beautiful thing, but scared my 9 year old son. Told him to strap on a pair too....got to teach 'em young or they'll turn into gurlymen[grin]

 

we had them in our gardens growing up. We used to feed them japanese bettles by throwing the bettles in their webs and watching them wrap 'em up.

 

Common garden spider. related to the banded garden spider which is similar but orange and black markings

 

DON'T Kill it it eats the friggin flys and skeeters you curse at!
