Does anybody ever launch south of MD 4 at the State Park in the Spring for the white perch run??

If so, do I even dare ask how crowded it is??? Only about 20 spaces, first come first serve.

Once you launch and go upriver- there will be hardly anyone up there. You can go downstream but that will mean passing all the guys bank fishing.

The parking lot gets full - people just park on the shoulder.Be very careful though- pull too far off and your truck will sink in about 8-10 inches :eek2:.

If the park you are talking about is Waysons, there is plenty of parking in the little park. Just use the side of the road and be prepared to walk. The furthest I have ever seen the cars parked in the park is to the little turnaround right before you enter the park. You can also park on Route 4. When the perch runs start, there will always be a crowd. Everyone is very friendly as long as you do not do bad things to someone's line. Make sure you go to the pier and say "Hi" to Speedy. I think he lives on that pier from the time the perch run starts until it finishes.

When I was in high school , I would park my Chevy van right next to the river and camp all night . Of course this was way before the new bridge and pier .

People still camp right next to the river. When the perch are running I have seen tents on the bank south of the bridge.

What park are you talking about ?
Mike

It's Ptaxent River Park, it's part of the PG County System.

Here's the link to the boat launch section with info. Daily/yearly pass required, gates don't open until 8, first come first serve for parking.

Thanks , I figured it out . I was just curious . Been a long time since I fished up that way . No need to go back there anymore after moving to the shore . The white perch fishing is fantastic down here starting in March .

Me too Mike. I still fish upstream from Vienna where you had suggested a few years back. We've hit it every year for 3 or 4 years now (only 1 day/year) and usually take a dozen or so of the nicer WP home for dinner. Great spot and I appreciate the tip a few years back. Played around a couple years ago w/ red hooks and feel they up'd the strike ratio....

The only places I've ever fished for YP was near Millington and Tuckahoe. Not as many YP numbers at Tuckahoe (Choptank) as the Chester River, but bigger fish with a few Pickeral and small Stripers mixed in. I'm thinking about getting a 17' jon boat so I can get back to fishing from a small boat for YP. I don't like fishing from shore near as much as from my boat and my 20' boat is great for Vienna, but a little too big for YP areas I've fished before.

I'm anxious to get out and wet a line for some merchies!!!

The YP in the pic were caught in Delaware from the bank . I can't take all the credit because my friend Tom showed me where , how and outfished me 3 to 1 . The nice thing is that up until last year , DE didn't even require a permit for fish in tidal water , even if you were from out of state . No size or creel limit on Neds either . With virtually no netting of them in those waters alot of big fish are the norm . By the way , those fish were caught on very tiny jigs with small plastic trailers fished under a bobber in very shallow water .
