I read about the pickerel fishing last year but didn't get a chance to do any. Anyone know if they are around yet? Anybody fish the south river or creeks off of the south for these guys? Techniques and flies?

Hit the CBBT on sunday - great weather and a lot of boat traffic. Was with some guys who wanted to bottom bounce and troll. No opportunity for the long rod. Birds got active in the afternoon but no consistent schools of fish on top.

I don't fish the South Alex, but I do fish her sister to the north (Severn). If she's anything like the Severn, the pickerel should be around. Probably better farther up river and in the creeks, barring any skim ice. You may also want to hit any main stem grass beds that you know of.

I have had pretty good luck with clousers and deceivers of various sizes and colors. My favorites are electric chicken (pink/green) and olive/white. Black works well also.
