Got a call from a buddy today. He works a shift opposite me. Our plant is being shutdown! I find out tomorrow if I have work for another month or I can start fishing all I want right away. 1500 more people out of work. The company is really doing wrong by its employees too. No severance no benefits extention. What a crappy way to treat people. Fortunately I figured out this was going to happen and am somewhat prepared. But it still sucks.

Oh well things are about to get very interesting.

I feel your pain, been out of work since the end of October. At least with fishing you will have a way to occupy your time until you find something else. The job market sucks so you should have plenty of time to fish!

Thanks everyone. Stubby i returned your email. Kevin, thanks for inviting me to the club meeting! I am definitely going to join! It seems like a great group of guys! I am hanging in there ok. I have some options open and I am actually looking forward to a change. If nothing else it will be great to have normal hours again. No more weekends YAY!

I was let go also after 14 years last week. No severance w/ mine either. Retail/Sales is all I have ever done. Have a lot of contacts and felt good, but seeing now it is definitely going to be a long road ahead.
Anyboby have any ideas, glad to hear all.

X pepsi man I am so sorry to hear about this. I think the key to surviving in this economy is networking. Any of the posted jobs are going to be inundated with applicants. One of the things I did was join Linkedin. It is like a myspace for professionals. I was able to connect with a lot of people I haven't talk to in years. You might also want to check out meetup.com. I originally found that site because of some social gatherings but they also have listings for networking groups as well. Hope this helps and I wish you lots of luck!!!!

I had a PM from one person asking the name of the plant that is shutting down. Its no secret if you live in the Richmond area as it has been on the the news. It is Qimonda Semiconductor in Sandston Va.
