I have recently purchased a 1992 Albemarle 325 with 3116, 300 h.p. CATS. I believe the props are 21x23, 4 blades( I may have the numbers reversed). Cruise at 2450 rpms-22.5 knots. Top out at 2800 rpms-26 knots. I would like to gain a little more cruise speed. Any suggestions? Different prop size? Appreciate any advice. Thanks!

This site is fun to play around with:

http://www.mercurymarine.com/prop_selector

You can also call a good prop shop like Murphy's in Norfolk, give them some specs and they can provide options.

If your engines are operating in their normal range of specified RPMs then you are okay with the props you have. In other words, if your engines are supposed to have a top operating RPM of say 2500 RPMs and you can get there with the props you have then they are good.

Putting bigger props on and and not being able to achieve top RPM ( at Wide Open Throttle - WOT) then you are loading down the engines and that is not good for engine longevity.
