Today's (Friday) Sunpaper had a short story and pictures of people protesting a few piers being built in Sullivan's cove.No real details - my guess is someone wants to put long piers out into the cove.Kinda tight in there.

Tide was super low from the photo.

Not sure of all of the particulars either Skip, but did hear mention of it from a fellow TF'er and good friend. Maybe he can chime in if he knows more.

From what I can recall, a certain well-off individual has a house back there. Unfortunately, in order to access the water, he must traverse the large marshy area. Hence, his pursuit to build the pier, or more notably, a boardwalk to the water where his new pier will also be built. The span to cross the marsh may be a couple hundred feet.

Don't know the particulars on this, but if the property owner has a marsh in his front yard, isn't that a good thing for the river? Much better than someone who fills in all of their wetland property just to own a 'beach'.

If he wants to build a boardwalk over the marsh to get to the water, I don't see anything wrong with that.
Tell me what I'm missing.

I'm not involved and have only heard bits and pieces. It seems to have become a long, sad drawn-out argument among neighbors/community association members, unfortunately. As others have mentioned, the real sticking point is building the pier through the wetlands. The owners (two seperate homes, I think) contend that they have a right to access the Severn come hell or high water (pun intended). The community association argued at one point that it owned the riparian property, I think, and also argues that building the pier through the wetlands could damage it. To be fair, the owners have made a number of concessions, including combining their plans for two docks into one, and it sounds as though some folks on both sides have gotten pretty nasty. As for the particulars about the likely damage to the wetlands if the pier is built, etc., I just don't know.

I was thinking someone other than you Goose. I felt like somone from the club posted a thread about a year ago about their boat being vandalized. I vaguely remember them mentioning that they though it might have been retaliation because of their involvment with trying to get the pier put in? I could be completely wrong but something about that pier rings a bell having something to do with a club member?
