Posting as an FYI to those that might have an interest

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) announces two public hearings for the proposed 2012 Atlantic bluefin tuna quota specifications

The dates and locations of the public hearings are as follows:

April 4, 2012, 2 to 4 p.m.
NMFS, 55 Great Republic Drive, Gloucester, MA 01930

April 10, 2012, 2:30 to 4 p.m.
NMFS Science Center, 1301 East-West Highway, Silver Spring, MD 20910

Please go here to view the proposed 2012 Atlantic bluefin tuna quota specifications and instructions for submitting public comments. The comment period will end April 16, 2012.

I dont think there was a north vs. south in the general category. You southern boys can catchem up in June to! Just like we can catch em in January.

Really the only change in the longliners can keep more now since they dont have to discard these fish.

General category is fish for sale..... the north takes over 85% of the quota of sellable fish. The commercial season on bluefins begins june 1. Between june 1 and october -november when they calculate how much the south is going to get, they will catch somewhere around 400 tons of commercially caught bluefins in the general category. Then the south will get whatever is left over for december and january, which this year was appx 30 tons. It absolutely is a north vs south issue on this one. They start the year in june so the southern boys dont get a crack at them.
