Had to give the opening day of the VA rockfish season a try. Got on the water at 9:00 AM today south of Smith Light. Caught a nice fat 35 incher on a green glitter tandem. Released another 28 incher caught on a chartreuse tandem. No inlines. No planers. Just trolling 4 boat rods today. Caught fish in 45 ft. of water. Surface temp was 62 degrees. Winds were under 10 mph. Tide was flooding. Plenty of bait fish and constant marks were observed. Lots of chatter on the radio with boats fishing above the line in MD seemingly doing well. We headed back at 12:00 for other commitments. Outstanding weather, water and scenery. Catching fish made an otherwise great day perfect.
