I went to visit Rudee Inlet about 3:30 this afternoon as I have not been there in over 10 years...not that much has changed...just lots more big boats...as a matter of fact they were all in their slips and the place was like a summer weekday. Quiet as a mouse. Had they caught their limits and come in early? There was no water on the docks, like they had been washing out their fishboxes; the only movement was the smaller boats passing to put their boats back on trailers at Owl Creek. I drove to Owl Creek and lots of empy boats linned up to get onto trailers. I talked to several guys and the reports were poor. Most got skunked; one caught and released lots of fish 6 miles off Corolla...he reported that they were small, that he was illegal land all were released. After a beautiful day, most reports were not good. Bob Allen, Hampton VA

I agree about the use of a gaff, you'll never see me use one on stripers, I've never needed one! (I have caught many large cows and the net was just fine. My own opinion is unless these different juridictions get on the same page its always going to be a issue of discussion! Unfortunately NC allows it so is someone wrong for using one? Who's to judge if the law says it legal? These states ALL need to be on the same program that includes the "Boat license" issue. If they don't want to recipricate with neighboring states then so be it that state should charge those non recipricating states a non resident fee!

HEy We fished a coulple hours from the green can to 4 a and beyond. We found a ball of bait by the can at first but no fish and that was all I saw for the day. Once about 50 people on the radio said no fish in a row we got out of there and went to cbbt for c and r and caught a couple of small fish. It was pretty in the bay real glassy but as far as fishing it sucked for us all day.

nada at cape henry, no marks, no birds, one subbmarine and a jet skier without any fishing gear, nice day to be on the water....
I just don't get it!! Below is the fishing centers report backed by a ton of pictures. How come all you guy's didn't catch anything and fished the same area. Take note of all the citations which were caught at Cape Henry. Something sure smells fishy!!!!:helpsmilie::boat:

FBFC Saturday 7th Feb 2009
** Citations are listed at the bottom of the page **

Looks like our predictions were right! Today has been amazing as far as fishing goes, the weather was an added bonus. Tons and tons of citations today, most of them released. A lot of people decided to go south towards the Corolla and Currituck Lights to do some fishing, while others decided to go north and a little east to do some catch and release. Honestly, if you don't want to make such a long run north or south to do some fishing, you can always go out off the beach and strictly do catch and release. Seems like this was the way to go today. Tons of limits were brought in well before 12 o' clock today making it hard to keep up with all the fish and charters. We still have openings for this week if you want to get out on the hot fishing actions. You can either charter a boat for your party or you can let us help you jump on a boat if you're by yourself.

note that there were only 5 citations that were actually kept. The implication there is that the rest of the citations that were brought in were brought in over the line and were therefor released. I assume a lot of the captains headed out to the warmer water for some big catch and release but for those of us that are looking to meat fish around the beach, the season is pretty much over.

The problem there is that there is no catch and release over the 3 mile limit. It is illegal to target rockfish over the 3 mile limit. :nono:

Talked to a friend who went trolling for catch and release "bluefish" in area around light tower sat. , said they caught and released (not on purpose of course) a few good size strippers... but were few and far between
