:eek2:Chopper and multiple boats are searching just off Lynnhaven inlet, a flag just washed up on the beach and Police came and got it. Flag was bright orange, chopper is combing beach and boats are between the pier and Lynnhaven's outer marker.
I hope everyone is all right, the coast guard has turned back 3 boats dumb enough to try it, the conditions are indescribable! One of the boats turned around after leaving the inlet was a 3 man 17' duel console bow rider with an outboard. The two head boats that went out put on quite a show making it in.

I saw several boats going out earlier this morning. The wind was not to bad at the time.

It picked up pretty good around 9:30 or so, yet more boats headed out.

I was thinking at the time these folks have Striper fever bad and I think they are going to be in for a rough time.

I saw the Coast Guard chopper arrive along with 2 Coast Guard boats and after a while several other boats arrived.

I hope everyone makes it OK. Very crazy thing to do. Put your life in danger and everyone else's on the boat not to mention the folks who end up going out to try to save their ass.

hookinfinger - what building are you taking the pictures from?
Water is a far cry different than last Saturday when everybody that owned a boat in the Tidewater area was out there. We even saw a 15 johnboat off the beach down around false cape.

I am over by the Lesner Bridge.

Yeah it is a far cry for sure. The wind is really howling now.

I see all kinds of boats going by everyday. Some as little as 14' with many people on board. I don't know how in the heck they stay afloat.

I don't know but I have a bad feeling about this. It may be a capsized boat they are looking for.:((

Search goes on

I too have a bad feeling about this one Dennis, I see no local reports in the media. I need to get a radio for the condo. I feel for the guys in the search as well, haven't seen conditions this bad for sometime. When it came up, it came up in a hurry. I hope for the best.

Yeah Mel,

My nephew( Coast Guard) is likely to be the helicopter. I will see him tonight and ask him what went on.

Another idiot testing 45mph winds and seas

God Bless Him! Can you believe that yacht, I bet everything on board is broken. Can't believe he hasn't turned around, the copter should be enough to tell you to put on a life jacket and head for home quick.

Hey Mel, I went down to crab creek and saw that guy going out too. (around 3:00)he seriously needs a mental health check-up. When I saw him before he went under the bridge I did only see him at the helm and noone else. Didnt seee any fishing rods on the rear of the boat either. Guy must have a death wish. Looked to me to be around a 28-30' cruiser of some type. Bad thing about it is, he will put other peoples lives in jeopardy (like dennis's nephew) who have to go out and try and save his dumbass.

Hey Dennis!
Always dreaded those NW winds. Looks like the same front that blew through the midwest a couple days ago.
70 deg to 20 deg. within a couple hours. Tornadoes and sustained 50 mph winds.

What yacht? Am I missing something here?
gooosehunter, not speaking for mel here but I think is is talking about boats that have still insisted on trying their luck even after the weather has turned extra screwed up.

The yacht mentioned is one of them.:eek2:

The search and rescue has been going on for hours before this guy decided it was a good idea to head out.

I noticed all that commotion when I was driving across the lesner earlier and figured it was a "search & rescue" mission. I hope everyone is alright.....but must reiterate that it is incredibly stupid & irresponsible to try & go out in those conditions. They not only put their lives in Jeopardy, but those of the people who are trying to recover them.
