All six recovered. Not saying much about their condition. Water temp in mid to low 40s.

Yeah.....don't be too quick to judge. You never know who talked whom into going.... maybe an experienced person talked some more inexperienced friends into going out...who knows...

Never ceases to amaze me what people are out there in. Saw at least 2 different boats with poling platforms on them around xmas, would never catch me in anything resembling a flats boat in the Atlantic Ocean in December....

From the AP Wireline story ~ 11:50am

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Coast Guard officials say two people died and four were rescued after their 18-foot boat capsized Wednesday in cold and choppy waters on the Chesapeake Bay.

Coast Guard spokesman Brian Neilan says a Coast Guard helicopter and boat, along with local rescuers, responded to a distress call near the Lesner Bridge in Virginia Beach shortly before 9 a.m. Wednesday.

Neilan says the four survivors showed signs of minor hypothermia after being pulled from the water. They were taken to local hospitals.

Authorities are investigating the incident.

The National Weather Service reported the water temperature was 46 degrees at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel. It also issued a small-craft advisory, with waves up to five feet high and strong winds.

Very sad

Watching the local news as they salvage the boat inside the inlet. Looks like a shallow bottom, aluminum "Tracker" fishing boat. SIX people. Two reported to still be unresponsive. Reported that life vests were floating with the debris from the boat.

I just saw an update and one is pronounced dead and the other criticle has a heartbeat, but is still in Criticle condition. They were in a small 16 or 17 foot aluminum boat. The VBPD is currently towing the boat back to the ramp at Lynnhaven.

Prayers to the families and I hope some lessons are learned today from this accident.

Maybe people figured they where fishing in Lynnhaven River and never even thought they would be dumb enough to hit the bay.
