Anybody using a Surf To Summit GTS Pro or GTS Elite or a Pricy GTS Expedition yak seat.
Thinking about getting one of those.
Would likke some comments to help me decide which one.
Main thing I want is to keep my butt from getting numb after a couple of hours as it it does now with the delux stock seat O.K. Prowler Tr.15

BBCroaker,
I don't know about the chairs you are interested in. Have you used other high back chairs previously? The reason why I ask you is that I used high back chairs (mostly on the rental kayaks). High Back chair leave big bruises on my back where the end of back pad (on life jacket). I usually started having pain after 2-3 hours of paddling when I sat on the high back chairs. I keep my back straight all the time due to the bad back and the pressure from the end of the back pad caused the bruises. Sometimes the bruises (on the back ribs) were very painful to paddle back many miles. I never had problems on low back chairs at all.

I am just checking if you were ok with all high back chairs.

Aslo, I sometimes use (place) a very cushy stadium seat (cut to fit) on the seat of the kayak chair. It cost about 10-15 dollars.

Friday:
The seat I have now in m yak the back is about 13"tall which feels about right..Doesn't hurt my back. I Was wondering how a high back would be.
Appreciate that info. The GTS Pro back is supposed to be 15" tall and the seat pad 2" thick. That really sounds like comfort.
The GTS Elite back is 18" think that would probably be to high since I'm on the short side .
I have also thought about finding a good gel pad.I may take a look at a stadium seat..

The pro's are that its really comfy and not a really high back rest and not anything to low. you can adjust them pretty easy

the Con's, they are pretty pricey. last i checked they were running between $80-100. also your boat has to have eye hooks on it. so basicly your boat has to be rigged for it if not all ready.

I got Crack of Dawn seats for my new Kayak. I hope they are good. They look to be around 18" tall on the back. The seem to have good padding.

Good Luck with your seat purchase.

The Surf & Summit I paid $150 wasn't worth it.It's not that comfortable and it slides down to a reclining position.I've tried velcroing it to the the kayak but the velcro doesn't hold up long.Don't waste your money on one.

BB The model is not written on the seat I bought it a few years ago upon reccemendation from someone on this kayak board but it's 18 in.tall on the back & 12 in from front to back on the butt seat.It has air in the butt seat.I don't think it's worth $50,let alone $150.
I was just as comfortable by using a type iv ,throw type, lifepreserver cushion as a back support for alot less money and after all...it's life prserever also.Try that first.

bbCroaker,
I could not find the same stadium cushion (very cushy foam pad) I have. But I found some memory foam seat cushions on the net. Most of memory foam cushions (that come with cloth cover and no hard materials ) can be rinsed in the laundry machine. I may order the first one below for test: I felt memory foam may be the cheaper and better solution. The only thing I am concerned about the memory foam pad is that it may absolve too much water for someone. If it does not work, I can give it to my dog (7lb yorkie).

This one fits my kayak seat: spec:15"x15"x2"
Sarah Peyton Memory Foam Round Seat Cushion from Overstock.com

Similar to the above one from BrookStone. But no spec:

This one may be too big:

My father uses a YakPads cushion on top of his current seat (old Hobie seat). Check out the $35 paddle saddle: Kayak Products. It's gel, but he likes it. It does get pretty funky after while, and I think he washes it with wetsuit shampoo.

I used the GTS Elite all last summer guiding and paddled an 80 mile tour of the western shore of the bay using it have and give it great reviews. I would like to try the GTS Expedition as it looks like it has more padding - also think that the Expedition is what Kayak Kevin used on his last tour.

Mine has never slide around and is easy to adjust if I want to snug it up a bit, I am honestly not sure how one of these seats could slide around unless it was defective or you did not have it rigged right. Mine was on a P-13.

I am 6'2 and the height of the Elite does good for me.

As far as all these gel inserts, extra cushions and all I do not know - but if you think it helps ya go for it.

I had to bid on about 10 of them before I got lucky. Some company had a bunch of them and sold them in a dutch auction. I got 2. I do use a blow up seat pad as well.Very comfy. I do alot of smallmouth fishing in Maine and need a good seat for those long hours of "torture".

Thanks for rhe info on the Elite. I think it may be a little high for me so I'm leaning to the Pro.
Kayak kevin said on another post he uses the Expidition in his touring boat and the Pro Sport for fishing because of the hight.
The Elite and Expedition sure look good though. Kevin said its like floating on air.
I sure would like to try one. oh I need to visit your web site again.

BruceW:The long hours is what get me too. Especially being on the older side. As you say after a fiew hours it feels like torture..
Good luck with the small mouths.

I have had the Elite since last May. I have been in it for extended periods of about 6-7 hours fishing. I like it. Doesn't feel too tall for me and I'm 5'6". Mine does not slide around. But I can't compare it to anything cause it's the only one that I have had.
