I got out for an afternoon/evening trip this past Thursday. We've definitely entered the dog days of summer, the perch are hanging around the usual spots but the action has cooled off a bit from the peak in June. We filled the live well with enough perch to provide fillets for my friend Joe's family and then we rode out towards Tolly point to see if there was any action out there. The NOAA forecast predicted waves less than 1 ft, and they were pretty far off. It was pretty bouncy for my 19' Sea Pro and we had a couple splash over the bow on the way out there. Once out there a small group of folks were fishing inside the marker along the dropoff. We stayed outside the marker at around 15 or 16 ft and soon marked some schools which we fished with jigging spoons. Despite the choppy water, the fish were even popping up and breaking every now and then. We caught a bunch of shorts and 1 keeper at 22" and one that was just a bit short of the limit.
