Over the past years I started purchasing Daiwa reels over Shimano because in my mind Shimano's quality had slipped. Now they seem to be getting back on track with the new Stradics, Curados, and Saros reels they came out with and now purchasing PowerPro will help push them to the forfront again. I think Daiwa and Abu Garcia took away a lot of Shimano's dedicated fans.

Used to shark fish all the time with big gear and have learned to appreciate a good fight on light tackle. To me a 30-40# striper on a 2500 reel or a baitcaster can't be beat.

Shimano ain't hurting, buys Power Pro
Posted by Alan Clemons, The Huntsville Times January 02, 2009 5:59 PM
Economics must not be hurting Shimano, which just completed a deal to purchase Innovative Textiles -- which makes the fantastic PowerPro braided fishing line.

PowerPro's manufacturing operations will remain in Colorado but all marketing and sales will be handled by Shimano's American group. The plan is to advance the popular line internationally and in saltwater markets as well as freshwater, where PowerPro has gained popularity in the U.S. with bass anglers.

PowerPro was introduced in 1997. Innovative Textiles has been involved with other fishing companies since 1992 and cut its teeth making Spectra fiber braid for kite flying.

Kites? Who knew that would lead to 60-pound line and big ol' bass?

This is a good move for Shimano and Innovative Textiles. PowerPro is a great line with has super durability and reliability.

I'll take Western Filament's ToughLine(Great line and cheaper) and Stren Superbraid(great on the spinning reels and xxexpensive) over Power Pro's plastic exudate any day of the week.I have reels with P-Pro and one day that'll change, but I admit P-Pro works just OK.

My favorite braided line is from Jerry Brown Industries. They make the really big tests, hollow core and solid braid in five colors. My favorite is the new blue color:

Unlike other braids, JB does not have the annoying coating that sheds off the line when you spool it.

i couldn't agree more i used to love shimano and now i just about hate them as far as spinning reels go...the old stradics and sustains were the worst spinning reels i have ever had the pleasure of fishing....i had several of them rebuilt just to have even more problems
(mostly with drag)....and at shimano prices i straight felt betrayed....daiwa is cheaper and i'm having much more success....

as far as power pro....i love that line and now that shimano owns it they will prolly just jack the F'n price up .....
