I know most of the big boat guys here probably are' but Im more interested in if any of the "little guys", private boats are fishing it. Also if you are do you wait until the last minute to enter so the weather doesnt muck your plans with consideration to the sizable entry fee?

We are up to 130 entries. This is way up from last year. Hope the weather holds. If you have any questions give me a shout at 288-9051. This year we are donating $10,000 to childrens hospital and more to other charities. The payout should be $100,000 before calcuttas. Happy New year, MIke

I am in all three days. I talked to Mike Standing last week and he says there are some rules changes and may be a bit hard to understand. The way Mike worded it was that it was gonna be run like two seperate tournaments. The "trolling" division is a troll only ASA style rules. I wanna say thats limited to 8 rods with 8 hook baits and IGFA rules. The "live bait" division is not live bait only and allows for both live bait fishing and trolling, but has no rules other than fish must be caught legally within tournament's boundaries (I THINK). I am gonna be fishing the live bait division, but still am not completely certain as to what exactly all the rules are.

Jake, thanks for bringing it up. I will be happy to explain it. For some reason this post keeps getting dropped and this information can be helpful to some people. Anyhow, as many of you all know, we have been trying to tweak the tournament and address every issue to make it as good as we can from day one. This will hopefully be the last change. The live bait/open division is the same as the tournament has been from day one. You can catch the fish any method that you choose (trolling, live bait, dead bait, artificial ect.). The only change this year is the addition of the (artificial only) division. For those people who were concerned that we were splitting the money up, we doubled it to $100,000. I hope this answers any questions and that we have positive comments. Please remember that this tournament has donated over 20,000 meals to the homeless and over $50,000 to charities. This tournament is also the basis for the economic impact study that we used when we went to the city for funding to extend Rudee Inlet and keep it dredged. Good luck!!!! By the way, forecast looks good. Strong west on Thur, lightens up a bit out of Northwest on Friday and light winds saturday.

The only weigh in station for the tournament is going to be Rudee.
I don't know why Lynnhaven is being excluded...something about certified scales to match Rudee's.
I do know it is going to be difficult for us fishing out of Lynnhaven to weigh fish at Rudee and then run back to Lynnhaven if the sea conditions are not favorable...

Hey Bobby- I have no plans to fish this year because of my shoulder and my back again(lol). Anyway I hope you guys do well and finish in the dough. I was reading the web site rules and they still state both weigh stations? :))

We reserved the scales and last week we were told that they did not have them. We purchased scales, but were told that we were not able to have them state certified in time. I am very sorry for this, but Steve Wray (long bay point) is trying to help us out (thanks). This is very critical because the money is getting so big and we do not want anything to hurt the credibility of the tournament and we want to have state certified scales.. We are going to do our best to put scales at Lynnhaven. We will know by tomorrow. We figured it will be 10 miles out of the way for those who dock at Lynnhaven if they are fishing above Cape Henry. Others that are fishing below Rudee can stop in on the way home. As always we have tried to do everything we can do to accommodate all participants. Most tournaments do not have 2 weigh stations. Please accept my apologies for this year and we will have two next year. Mike

By the way. As always I am looking at the weather each day before the tournament. I want to share a site that many of you may already know. A few years back a friend named Bill Gooch turned me on to it and I look at it non stop. FishWeather.com - MD - chesapeake Wind Data Go to the left side to wind weather click on it and go to the drop down above and the area that you need to go to ( (xt va/nc)
then go to the date and time that you want. You can pick the direction that you want to go when going fishing. You can time the bad winds. Many times they are call for extreme winds, but they are far from were you will be fishing. This site has been fairly accurate for me. 1/8/09 west 25 knots (fish will be driven close to shore where it is very fishable) 1/9/09 northwest 20 to 25 (very fishable) 1/10/09 no wind. Good luck with the site. Mike
