Fellow Tfer B-Faithful (Greg) invited me along on his sweet 27' Judge since my rig is down.He brought along fellow TFer Reeltor (Paul) and I brought fellow TFer Mlag (Mark). We met at Solomons ramp at 6:30am and loaded in alot of my fishing gear.Planer boards, seven rods,12 donuts,2 dozen oysters,clips/rubberbands, lunches and drinks.I felt awful loading his boat up but Greg was a great host and stowed everything. We launched and soon the quiet Honda 4 stroke was running and Greg headed towards the fishing grounds.Paul and Mark got the other rods ready. The folks in southern Md are the friendliest people around - they put out a marker that says HI
p.We started on the west side and headed east as the sun broke over the shoreline.Got the boards out and had 10 rods out when a boat rod got crushed.Greg reeled in a fat 36 incher to start the day.Mark and I rigged the board rods while Paul and Greg rigged the boat rods.Damn- 1 to nothing.Next hit was a board rod and Mark got a nice 37 incher.Hardly had that one in when another board rod got hit- this one I reeled in- about the same size.Mark smiled at me- 2 to 1 .The fish hit single chartuese 2 or 4 oz parachutes- back 80 feet.Next was on the tandem side of the boards and Paul released the fish before we could net it
.2 1/2 to 1 now.We swung back west and saw alot on the meter.Next fish hit the board- tandem again and this one was netted.Limit of overs at 8:30.We were the only boat around and the fish really started to bite.We all took turns driving and reeling in fish - the tandems back 60 feet were on fire.We had trouble keeping 4 rods in the water.Paul had a good fish on a tandem off the boat but by now it was 12 to 2.He upped the score by bringing in two Rock on one rod.We did circles near the HI marker and the western edge in 60-70 feet was best. The single side caught a few and the boat rods got one more.We never really got a break until about 12:00 and took advantage of slack current to eat.The guys turned down my chocolate donut/oyster sandwich - guess it is an aquired taste.Called a few other TFers on the VHF and they reported hooking up as well.We caught two unders- one 27,the other 25 but fat as pigs.Paul washed the deck about 6 times to clear the sea lice. The tandem lures that were battered and chipped worked best and the fish hit both white and chartruese- as well as a yellow one.The bay got flat about 2:00 and by now we had caught over 30 Rock. Most came off the boards and we even had to pull one in to get back the clips so we could keep setting lines.Finished the day with 38 total and about 12 missed strikes/lost fish.Got back to the ramp at 4:30 - just before dark.I can not thank Greg enough for taking us out - it was fun to be a HO for a change. He has a nice boat - it just needs a coffee cup holder ;-) , I spilled mine this morning but luckily on the floor and it cleaned up.With the water temp. at 44-45* and the amount of bait- I'll bet these fish will be here another week or so.Plenty of Gannets and even saw some Pelicans.Greg and Paul took photos- I hope they post them.
