There are a few laws in the booklet DNR hands out with your license. You can not shoot gamefish until June 1st. Carp/Skates/etc are open year round. Can not harvest crabs with scuba gear.

The bay does not really offer much in the way of spear gunning. The better places are the CBBT or even farther out in the ocean.Spades/Tog/Sea Bass are there in good numbers.

You might find some Flounder near PLO - they are good targets. Most of the bay fish are small/ fast moving and with 1-6 foot viz , a tough target.

In the bay- I find anchors to be fun to get.

Thanks for the Info, Sawdust and Skip.

Skip,
You read my mind. I was interested in Flounders at PLO (I found a good spot last year) in Summer/Fall and possibly a half dozen of crabs. I mainly fish on a kayak. This year, when I am bored on a kayak, am planning to do free-dive for Flounders (Speargun). Do you think it's lawful if I am using the lobster tickle stick and net to catch crabs while free-diving? (I never tried for crabs yet). I am not using Scuba gears.
Thanks,
Joe

The jellyfish off PLO are rough in summer :eek2:.

I can grab crabs by hand - I wear heavy diving gloves.Be warned though- they are fierce fighters underwater - nothing like on land.Best places to look are rockpiles - often you find doublers and the males are big Jimmies.

You need to ask a DNR guy about frrediving for them.I would think it is illegal - just like with scuba.
