For just $5.00 - you can buy a logbook and keep a record of your fishing trips.I've always kept a log and it pays off.Fish follow certain patterns and if you keep good records - you can have better catches. Not every year is the same but once you figure out how it compares to years past - you'll be ahead of the game.

I like to keep a small notebook on the boat ( the green one) and a larger one for home. You can write down anything but water temp. is a big one.

I pulled a page from 2007 trolling trip.I like to draw a rough map - really helps me in future trips. This page is safe to share :D.

I often read logbooks from years past before heading out - anything to get an advantage on the fish.It is amazing how fish will come back to certain areas year after year at the same time frame. You can bet I'll be live lining Perch the first week of June near the channel just north of the bay bridge .

I will include GPS numbers and also what others near me caught. The more detail - the better. From my logs - I know not to try certain spots on incoming current but I'll be there on outgoing ;-).

A lot of fishermen keep logbooks - it's easy and trust me - you will become a better fisherman if you keep one.

It's sad how a logbook will make you realize how bad your memory is :D.I often read of trips 3-4 years ago that I forgot about.

Watch them paint fumes - you'll be singing "Black Slacks " before long :pp.

Lead fumes and whiskey shots...... I ain't got a hope in he** of remembering. But I can tell you that last year on Feb 10 the water temp was 38 at the ESRP and 41 at the sewer pipe discharge. The water was stained. I fished with Mrobertson. We caught perch and dink rock. I started fishing down the bay on Feb 12 with better results. Good advice, Skip. Logs are where it's at!

I started doing this as a Ho even (except I don't have GPS#'s), based on Skip's (and other people's) advice. For about the same price, if you are willing to order online, you could get something like this:

I like the Rite-In-The-Rain stuff. I use it for research and have one for fishing and hunting notes. In addition to trip notes, I also have all quick notes about other stuff like when I changed the line on my rods. I think it helps.
