Went out from Hampton this morning. Stopped in Hampton R. on way out - and proceeded to catch a bunch of grey trout (10-12in) in the channel. Should have stayed there. But - went out to the Bar and caught black seabass, few spot, few croaker, and other assorted bottom fish. Fish were primarily 25 -35ft depth. Overall, we caught 14 diff. species! Variety was interesting but frequency of catching was low. Tried around Ft. Wool later as tide changed - but fish bite was slow. Did observe what we thought were a school of +10-12in trout crashing thru bait fish in a rip. Exciting to see - couldn't entice a bite.
If next few winters are mild - looking forward to some good trout years in the future.
Great to see they finally arrived. Mike - did you catch them with fishbites or live bloodworms? Read report from Wilcox in newspaper that live is working better. We used both but didn't have enough action to tell any difference.
On Friday - did see a comm netter setting nets just off Hampton Bar.
