Upgrade your Leaders to 60+ lbs.

You mention strech 25 then 30,
The newer 25's have stonger hooks, if you run a 25 make sure the hooks are large and at least 3x strong, 4x strong better.
Chartruse Stretch's have been working very well also, it's hard to beat old standby Red\White.

Personally, spooling 30lb. is good for distance, Pier or beach casting, But trolling I spool 50lb.

?

Would it not be easier on your back and arms to put at least one of those umbrellas, if not both, on the shorter lines with more weight to get it down? Possibly even on a down rigger.
An umbrella on a "way back" is a lot of drag to bring in a long distance with a big fish on, no?
Maybe you're a lot bigger than me and / or like the work out (?).

Everyone is going to have different ideas on this one.

I run between 5 and 11 rods depending on boat and crew and experience.

I mark each line for different distances back IE: 275' 250'225' and the next rod is marked the same way but for closer in.

I run lots of parachutes, but the secret is to keep everything spaced out and at different depths.

I might start witht the WTFb line with 4 oz and work my way back in, every rod has a different weight so second rod might be 8oz and so forth.

Then when I am at the back of the boat I run heavy weights to keep the lines almost straight down.

You can turn a 90 degree angel if you have to and not tangle, just remember when going into the current you need more speed so everything doesnt drop out and tangle.

And zig zag when possible, it is always a good thing as when baits drop out and then come tight again, you will get a lot of strikes.

Bmail me if you have any more questions.

good luck with what ever you decide to run.
