After going friday and getting into some nice bass and landing my new personal best Snowy Grouper 55lbs. 12 ozs.(Sorry no pics.) I put a crew together for Sunday including Gus, Ketchup and Deepdrop to give it another shot.
We left Owl's Creek @ o-dark thirty beating all the striper guys so parking was a breeze compared to friday and the water was nice and calm so we were able to cruise at 35mph making for a great start to our day. We decided to stop for the Bass first taking a break from the long ride out. We caught a REAL NICE class of seabass until around 11 o'clock leaving them biting with 40 in the box and headed to the grouper grounds.
This turned out to be a good move! We make our first drop with 20ozs. of lead and a Healthy Menhaden hooked to a 9/0 circle hook and it is on!!!!! ALL 4 of us hook -up first drop. I start with my first ever wreckfish wieghing 25lbs. Ketchup pulls up a nice 47lb. snowy and Gus makes his personal best with a 51lber. Deepdrop comes unplugged so 3 of us our done and we head back so Deepdrop can get his. He drops again and within 5 seconds he is on again with a BRUTE! Deepdrop now has his new personal best in the boat @ 54lbs.:bigfish: This was one AWESOME stop we will not forget; 3 REAL NICE GROUPER AND A WRECK IN LESS THAN 30 MINUTES OF FISHING.
We decide to go back to the first stop and try to finish our Bass limit which we accomplish by 4pm and head to the barn in flat seas with both boxes packed running a smooth 45 mph back to the dock.
TOTAL'S for the day: 1-Wreckfish, 3-Snowies, 1- Rosie, 100 Seabass, 1- 4LB Flounder and a dozen or so Bluefish. (Only 4-5 Doggies all day!) No citations on the Bass but the average size was 3plus pounds. We didn't keep any bass under 14 inches.
