The United States Department of Mineral Management Services has initiated a public comment period regarding a potential lease sale for recovering oil and gas reserves offshore Virginia. The sale will be held no earlier than 2011, and Virginia is the only east coast state that has been included in the Department's five-year plan to allow these leases to go forward.

The MMS published a Call for Information and Interest/Nominations and Notice of Intent to Prepare and EIS for "Lease Sale 220" on November 13. The area covered by the Call is about 2.9 million acres offshore Virginia, and is at least 50 miles offshore. In recent discussions, this area has been labled "the wedge." MMS estimates this area may contain 130 million barrels of oil and as much as 1.14 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.

I'd like to encourage you to individually provide comments to the MME in this proceeding. You may either send a letter, or provide comments via e-mail. The The complete instructions for commenting are at:

Virginia Lease Sale 220

The deadline for comments is December 29.

I can not wait for the rigs to get established, some of the best fishing I have experienced in my life was fishing down in Louisianna around the rigs (I have fished east west and gulf coasts and also Okinawa). I just wish they would move the rigs to about 25 miles offshore vice the proposed 50 miles.

BTW I went to the web link and you can send comments via email, vice snail mail.

Nice to meet you today also Jamie, wished I had more time to shoot the [email protected]#t. Ill get back soon. Thanks for sticking this map up in case anyone was interested in the drilling area proposed.
By the way, the bilge was dry as a bone ( seems Capt. Lee did a fantastic job as usual taking care of her boat) Im not sure of the problem she found, but according to her it was sitting much higher and dryer than the day before.
