On a December 14th charter with Kyle (Chartruseking) we caught a 36inch rockfish with a tag. I sent the tag in and today got my Rockfish lapel pin and the information. (You have a pick of a hat or the pin)

The fish was a wild bred fish tagged 9/5/05 off Nantucket Island and was 29.2 inches at that time.

Just thought it was interesting. Definitely send in tags or the info (if C+R) Least we can do to help the research.

FWIW: I have a chart on Rockfish length/age.

It shows a 29 incher to be about 7-8 years old.
A 36 incher is about 10-11 years old.

That follows about what the tagged fish grew.It also depends how the tagger and the recapture angler measure the fish.

Some tagged fish come back a few years later that are SMALLER then when released :D. Some sharks that are tagged seem to change from male to female :pp- guess the tagger was in a hurry.

Thanks for reporting the info, catching tagged fish adds a lot of excitement to a trip.

It's pretty neat to see how the tagging program shows you how slow these bigger fish grow. I know it'll make me think twice about keeping larger fish... it just takes so damn long for them to get that size, seems like it makes more sense to let the bigger ones go and keep smaller (but legal) ones.
