Went down to Tampa with my buddy for the Superbowl for the last week...decided that after all the debauchery and parties at night we needed to take one morning and relax so we went fishing. Went to a local tackle shop and found a good place to fish (reds on the flats), and headed out.

Tim (Twiskman) had given me a fly he tied earlier so I decided to give that a shot first, it looked like it would work so I tried it a few times and finally hooked up with of all things a nice grouper on the drop off of the channel ledge. Ended up breaking me off but it was nice to hook up. Eventually caught a few small reds, and all the Lady fish you could catch...I see why they call them poor mans tarpon. You could not keep them off the line. No good but fun to catch on light stuff. It finally dawned on me that there was no way I was getting anything through the ladyfish so we packed up and headed back to Tamp...All in all it was a great time and a nice break from what went on most nights and afternoons down there...I always try to fish when I'm somewhere new, just glad my buddy was game!

Ladyfish are the #1 bait for Snook, Tarpon and most anything that swims. Cut in steak chunks everything loves it. Many of the guides in charlotte harbor take you ladyfishing first to get big snook baits.

Yeah we heard that too, would have been nice to hit a tarpon...where we were was mainly trout and redfish, or so I was told, but I was working mainly the fly and jigs. If I had more time I probably would have given it a shot!
