We got some horse hoos and lots of layers of clothes.. The flying scud is a 26' cc carolina skiff offshore series with twin 225's.... Shes set up pretty nice and has been pretty good to us so far. But she is not the warmest of boats-- just introducing ya to the new comp for future offshore events around this here area. If anybody wants to get out there for some practice with us tomorrow and hopefully a chance at a nice fish give us a hail on 68-

No show report

Alright ladies and gentlemen here is the report,

Found out our Hoe bailed on us at the boat ramp at 340... Oh well, we're here... Might as well.. Team NO SHOW, living up to its name, & the Flying scud, headed out with a skeleton 2 man crew u/w @ 345 trying to get the early bite, fish first light, do battle with, capture, and kill a giant tuna with 2 people, and be back for the 100 turkey kick off... No problem eh?? Seas were glassy slick calm, real nice. Crispy cold. Seemed perfect. With some time to burn we trolled out the inlet and down the beach a bit trying to pick up some rockfish or bluefish, but nothing. Picked up and hauled a$$ @ 430 to 1/2 way between fish hook and hotdog. Put out spread by 600ish, naked left long wwwwb, b/w islander left short wwb, and basically the same combo on other side... 1 naked on left downrigger, and r/w sea witch on right DR- Trolled all morning working out towards hotdog and fingers..nada- tried switching out a few colors with pinks and greens - There were a couple other boats out there in our area.. Nobody was seeing anything, no bites, nibbles, nothing. No marks, no bait, no dolphins, no nothing.. We trolled till around 1030 and were about 40 out.. Hate getting skunked but the action was not worth deviating from original plan to be back by 1 so we decided to call it. packed up and headed in. about 20 miles off we came up on hundreds of birds dive bombing something. We had thrown out all our bait, (idiots) and packed up all our gear... so we just threw out some stretches, zuris, and spoons.... not even 30 seconds after the first rod in she starts singing. We had found some monster BlueFish.. 15-20lbers.. rigged up a few lighter weight rods with some bucktails and wore out some blues for an hour or so till we had enough. gotta say hats off to the big bluefish, they are some furious fish, airing out and battling hard to the end.. So, No bluefin tuna, but the skunk was successfully removed in the bottom of the ninth and we had some decent pullage for our hardcore effort. Thanks be to the dive bombing birds..
Till next time-
Team No Show

That might have been the bluefin you were looking for. The bluefish are feeding on small bait, the bluefin are feeding on the bluefish and there is a good chance there were some nice striped critters in with the bluefish as well. At least you had fun with the blues out there. Thanks for the report. We will be looking for those blues in the AM so any tips do help. Martin

Sounds like you had similar luck to what we had. We did actually find 100+ lb bluefins busting on top, but we could not buy a bite. We chased them for several hours with nothing to show for our efforts. Maybe next time.
