“Now in the last seven years we have had the highest corporate profit ever in American history. Highest corporate profit! We’ve had the highest productivity! The American worker has produced more per person at any time, but it hasn’t been shared, and that’s the problem because we have been guided by a republican administration who believes in this simplistic notion that people who have wealth are entitled to keep it and they have an antipathy towards the means of redistributing wealth.”

Achieving those record profits (see Wall Street) required no regulation. No regulation of business is the mantra of the Republican party. If you watched the CSPAN investigations of the collapse of Wall St. CEO after CEO sited lack of regulation as the cause of the collapse. PS it caused the Depression of 1929 and the collapse of the savings and loan industry under GWBI.
If taking from the rich and giving to the poor is communistic/socialist please explain the 91% upper tax bracket during the administration of Eisenhower, Republican. It was lowered to 70% under Kennedy, Democrat.
Checking out what you think you know with written studies and facts it may be embarassing but at least you will know the historical truth.PS studying history has xed out a lot of what I took for truth.

What do I get for actually finding great wisdom in an Etouffe post?

History...and little "personal opinion" as all personal opinion is learned...mine from the over 300 history/biography books I own and use as reference here.

MY problem arises from my skepticism of most history books. I simply have a hard time believing most historical accounts of the past. Most just seem to either glorify or villafy one side over another. Every single biography I've ever read seemed like a PR job. I guess it's up to the reader to make their own judgments regarding what they read, but I just find very little value in biographies.

People have been getting laid off by company's making record profits,
they are not being replaced, the people left are taking up the slack,
without receiving a raise or due compensation-that's just wrong.

Bonuses if given to employee's as well as Managment and CEO's
would have a direct effect on the economy.

Russ without books how do you learn and progress. Newspapers, magazines and TV are fine but I find that time and good research uncovers more information for me to decide upon. Triologies like Robert Caro's on LBJ would hardly be called glorification of him.

No regulation of business is the mantra of the Republican party.
Since when is that the mantra of the republican party? Republicans simply believe that the less government involvement in business the better. That is just common sense. Look at anything govenment regulates and tell me that it is working properly. Now when a democrat says "this simplistic notion that people who have wealth are entitled to keep it" we should all, republican and democrat alike, stand up and yell enough is enough. Notice in his comment that wealth is not defined so he could be talking about the top 1 percent that pay 50% in taxes or he could be talking about me and my neighbors who make under 100K and struggle to make the bills and save some for a rainy day. It is the reason everyone works so we can have wealth and keep it. If I want to give some of it away to charity that is my decision, I do not need government to take my money and give it away because it feels like it can do a better job than I can with my money.

Wake up and smell what is comming. I am sure you all are considered wealthy in some way, shape, or form and your simplistic view that you are entitled to that wealth is crazy. Share the wealth, work less and let government take from the "wealthy" to give to those who deserve to be wealthy.

You act as if business has some sort of social responsibility. Business is responsible for acting within the law and delivering a profit to the share holders. That's it, period. If business does something for the good of the community as a whole it is done for PR purposes and with an eye on the bottom line.

Let us know when you recognize the logical fallacy of what you just wrote.

I recommend starting your own business. After all, it is usually the guy giving out the bonuses who get the biggest bonus. ;-)

Don't give him any ideas SD. You'll be making more work for me if he bolts. I'll never be able to take off during the week to go fishing again!
