Certainly it is partially true but we have an interesting memory of how things used to be.
I don't know Jim... I didn't go to school in the 50's, but a lot of what's in that post is pretty true for the 70's and early 80's when I was in school.

Nor did I go to school in the fifties.
I was there in the 60's but I also went to a VERY rural school and things there are still very different than they are here.

We just tend to romanticize the past. For instance, most of the girls who became pregnant in the 50's didn't go off somewhere else to a special school. They dropped out or married at 16. (I have an aunt that fit in this category.) A huge percentage of the boys dropped out as well. (My dad fit in this category.)

Most of Virginia didn't have summer school for Pedro. He dropped out when he didn't pass. Perhaps he joined the military and maybe got a GED while he was in. Maybe he died in Nam.

I dunno.. wasn't really tryin' to romanticize the past as much as I was trying to poke fun of our knee-jerk over-reactions to just about everything these days. I realize the 'good ol' days' aren't really that good, but sometimes the here and now can be pretty regoddamdiculous as well...

In 1978 I was allowed to carry a .22 target rifle on the school bus with amunition in my pocket.

Times have changed.

:D each person's experience will be different (wasn't that profound). The list however brings to discussion much that has been changed as the rural moves to the city (or the city encompasses the rural).

I have read over the list several times and digested the comments of those older than I, and run it through my Chinese made super computer and the only logical conclusion is that it's Haliburton's fault.

Those were last week and the week before respectively. Tonight is how to convince your christian neighbors that they are insane. It should be a blast.
