i always joked that when i grow up i wanted to be a weather man, but after the missed call on the massive snow storm we were suppose to get i guess i will stick to being an immature underpaid firefighter! Probably less paperwork anyways. Anybody else disgusted with the weatherman getting it wrong?

I don't think it was ever predicted as a "massive snowstorm". And all the predictions that I saw on Monday noted that this was a very dynamic storm system and the precipitation from it could vary widely over the viewing area.

As I understand it, we had a low level layer of drier air in the Tidewater area, and that caused the falling precipation to evaporate before reaching the ground.

The OBX got a fair share of the white stuff.

As to "disgusted" with the error, I believe I have more important stuff to get riled up over than a missed call on some snow. ;-)

i do agree it was a dynamic system, maybe not perfect storm or anything, but with the forecast we recieved and all the school closures and delays, it was pathetic, the stores were out of milk, bread and other stuff people horde when its suppose to snow. We recieved a light , i mean light dusting on the peninsula for an hour or two not the 3-5 inches they called for and basically i dont know why they give us a ten day forecast when they cant even get tomorrow right. and thats a fact!

My favorite weather prediction is 50% chance of precip   :clapping2:

Does that mean he/she has the day off

But then again who would pay for a prediction like " Maybe it will and maybe it wont"

Pretty funny. I turned on the local news at 5:30PM today to see hwat they had to say for them selves. All they did was say they were warning us of the weather, but never said we got it wrong. Beat around the bush they did. Never wrong and phrase it that way.

Shoot Kevin, I bet Jeff Lawson was on there telling everyone how he'd been saying this was very likely to happen all along.

Like I've said over and over again, make them responsible, liable and accountable for the inaccuracy of their forecasts, and I guarantee the forecasting technology will improve within a year. There is simply no incentive for them to improve. Kind of like getting the DMV to be more “customer friendly”.

Can't be wrong.

They deal in %'s. Hard to miss when noone knows which % they are supposed to be in!!

Besides, Its the "....10 day forecast, updated every 4 hours............".
Good they don't have to take SAT tests.

What fired me up was that Wavy 10 who is "on my side" put the graph up and showed that Va Beach ocean front WOULD receive 3-5" beginning at 4am. Not possibly, not a chance of snow. 3-5". But what killed me was that yesterday Wavy 10 went to Va Beach, Ches. and Norfolk school districts and asked why they closed the schools!!! It was the guy's fault sitting next to them at the news desk!!! What a bunch of dolts!! I'm out.
