With all the media coverage currently focused on media reporters being kidnapped and/or wounded and with, appropriately, our war dead and wounded perhaps we disregard the lives of those living in the countries we attack. Strange in that we profess to be there to free these people from tyranny and to bring them the benefits of democracy and "the American way".

The real human toll includes, too, the estimated 3,450 Iraqi police and security forces who have been killed in what is already a low-grade civil war. And according to Iraq Body Count, a website that gathers media accounts of civilian deaths, between 26,000 and 30,000 Iraqi civilians have died from coalition actions through Monday.

But even those totals are dwarfed by the number of dead -- by some estimates over a million -- caused by the U.N sanctions that started with Bush I, and continued under President Bill Clinton, whose Secretary of State, Madeleine Albright, once described the effects of the sanctions on Iraq's children as "worth it."

The most recent "faulty" intelligence results in more deaths!!!!

Acting on sensitive intelligence describing the whereabouts of Zawahiri and other top al Qaeda figures, the CIA ordered the airstrike by a Predator drone that fired an air-to-ground missile at the compound, nestled on the border with Afghanistan. The sources said more than a dozen people may have died in the attack. It was too early to confirm the identities of the dead, but U.S. military officials said Zawahiri may be among them.

"This would not have happened unless they had pretty precise information that the right target was at that location," said one U.S. military source. He cautioned, however, that it was possible Zawahiri got out of the building before it was hit. The source said U.S. forces, who had been tracking Zawahiri for the past two weeks, will probably know more once the bodies can be examined

.........and Al Zawahiri gets a big boost in recruitment for al Queda from his video laughing at the United States and President Bush.
