I have a lowrance 28c planning on installing a through hull. I have two choices the nwer B60 which installs flush (3/8" reveal or the 106-79 which is an older typical through hull bronze with fairing block. I like the idea of the "flush mount" B60. It is pre-tilted for up to 15 degree deadrise or to I think 20 or more deadirise. What I really need to know is if anybody who fishes a lot has any info on the B60 and how it does on fish (arches etc.). I am a little worried about the pre-set angle. Also the 106-79 older transducer w/fb can be adjusted to shoot straight down the B60 can't. The guys at BOE tell me they have been selling a lot of the B60. Any info from serious fishermen tyhat have the B60 or like the 106-79 better would be appreciated. Airmar co. makes the B60 for lowrance, garmin and others

another transducer question

I have a 20' Grady White with a Garmin combo fishfinder/depthfinder/gps unit that is 4 years old. I have had the typical stern mounted transducer but have experienced the depthfinder/fishfinder read not working when i get up over 10-12 knots unless I turn the wheel. Evidently this is due to turbulence from the hull and motor. We moved the trandcuer position and it helped only a little. This fall when the kids were skiing they tore the wire running from the transducer so I have to replace it. The boatyard recommends replacing it with a through-hull transducer which they think will be better re: bottom reading at speed. any thoughts?

The B60 is the way to go. If I had to do it over again I would have went with the B164 instead. I'm very happy with the B60 for the time being.

This screen shot was taken in 77' of water using the B60's big brother, the B164 and a Furuno sounder @ 50kHz. (w/o a 2X zoom on the bottom) ;-)

Impressive huh?

Holding the bottom at cruising speed (a conservative 26mph for me),
with a shoot thru the hull transducer.
But even at top boat speed (43mph), holding the bottom is
not a problem, even in 100 plus feet, which is about as deep
as it gets around here.

have to slow down to see fish and for me are usually in less than 50 feet

I added the B60 later, a good and cost effective choice for a 20 foot boat.
