I just bought an old 14 ft jon boat and trailer from a dude in the Chesapeake area and neither had titles; they were both gifted to him from a family member. I tried reaching out to get the titles but haven't had any luck. I am having issues with titling since a bill-of-sale is not sufficient enough for DWR and DMV. I was naive to the complexity of this all and really want to get these titled before i start the restoration on both.
The only info i have on these are an old registration tag on the trailer from 1989 and the HIN on the boat. The previous dude sand blasted the boat and took off the thin HIN plate which i do have. So the boat is bare bones and the trailer needs a good once over. No titles and no luck so far. Please help!

Dude you really hosed yourself. For the trailer the easiest thing you can do is get a harbor freight 4'x4' trailer assemble and get it inspected to get a tag. You can file for a salvage title for the boat might require some pictures, affidavit etc.

The registration might/should have title #'s; check DMV/DNR web sites for duplicate title applications and print them take to seller have them fill out if their names appear on registrations. I think they can/should change title address to yours then have titles sent to you or have have to return them to owners to sign off as sellers.

I can sell you a car that was "gifted to me" with the VINS removed real cheap, you even get to pick the make and model if you'd like for a little extra, just have it titled as a salvage, need a bridge?...
