Anyone service their own Tlds. I use mine year round from trolling for stripers to trolling offshore for mahi and Whites. I have 7 that are about two years old and never been serviced. I am pretty mechanical but not sure if I should just pay someone or if its something not worth paying for. I what to make certain that the drags are properly working and everything is lubed up good. I have some 50 two speeds also but they only have one season on them.

Thanks

Do a search on Alantani. He put a post up a year or so ago outlining the entire teardown. It's very very easy after you get the first one done.

head over to Fishing Reel Repair by Alan Tani - Index

He has step by step instructions for a ton of reels, including the TLDs. For the TLDs he goes into great length about how to get the most out of the drag system. If you have questions, drop him a line--he has been extremely helpful to me

If you get lost or need help shoot me a b-mail and I'll walk you through it. If you do it right in front of your puter while readin Alan's instructions you'll be fine.

I am in the same boat. It would be great to work on these reels myself. Between work and the newborn, though, I don't think I am going to have time to "eat an elephant." I have six of these reels too. I also have 2 Penn 6/0s and a 9/0 I would like to have serviced for me. Where should I take them and how much am I looking at per reel? I live in Pasadena and will be using the reels for offshore and Bay as well...

Hi Ken...hope all is well with the family...CONGRATS ON THE BABY! I have had my Penn reels serviced by Tochterman's and they did a great job... ya might want to call them and ask about the TLD's.

Think i'm going to send him a pm, not sure if I can be aggrivated with screws and springs shooting everywhere! I took apart a cheap penn 230 a couple years ago and it exploded on me?

Thanks Guys for all the help, lot of good people willing to lend a hand.

Taylor, I'd be glad to service your reels if you choose not to tackle them yourself...
