Worked on the boat for about 6 hour taking care of all the little things that built up over the fall.... Then headed down to Osborn and spashed her...I just took one rod and a cast net. The birds were working hard all over the river. Got a few small shad at the warm water discharge for live lining. I was only out about 2 hours and got one Small blue cat ( 4 to 5 lbs) near the 295 bridge. Heading out tomorow for some more.... Gona be in the 70's !!!!!!!:fishing2:

Freshwater Board - James River

Some of the folks that fish the upper James will use the Fresh Water Board instead of this one.

PS I used to fish that area a lot and enjoyed it. Lots of different fish to be caught from Cats, Smallies, Large Mouth, Perch, Crappie, and tons of Stripers.

If you ever need a ho fishing up there let me know, I have been dying to get up there and haul some big cats again. Also if you are looking for some cats down this way I have done real good in the upper Piankatank with blue cats up to 41 inches and 30 pounds. Most everything I catch down here is on eel chunks, haven't tried a gill net for shad here but i will this year to try some fresh shad in the Tank.

Kevin,

Would you mind expanding on your "tons of Stripers" comment? I'm sure they are there but I've having a hard time connecting with them. I'm hoping the spring run brings me luck...this weather sure has me dreaming of spring.

Thanks for any advice you can share.

Satterly, and anyone else. I'm off work on every Monday and Tuseday and try to fish every week that the weather permits. I usualy fish alone as I can't find anyone to go. I'll be heading back down to Deltaville when the croker, blue's and spanyards come back. But, till then Cat fish followed by the shad run. I'll post here if I'm going out if anyone wants to join me. I do want to try the upper pank. I like the little boat ramp off rt 198 just east of rt 33. I may try that area next week ( Mon, Tuse)

I have a 16' CC so I stay in the skinny waters, I will also be running a 22' parker CC in the summer. let me know if anyone wants to meet and fish the Pank

Upper James Striper

Kevin your Right ! I caught and released several near the 295 bridge. Some times I free line a shad or minnow and pick them up. I was marking alot of fish at about 12 ft in the 30' channel. I know a guy that caught a 40"er there..

Hey, whats the earliest run on the Rapp and the Pank ??? Shad ??? Early season blue's, Trout, near windmill or stingray, stovepoint???? When can we get back out on the salt... I can't wait to get down to Wake! or the Pank

No poachin' for me either Kevin! Geez, even it I wanted to flaunt the rules I wouldn't even come close given my catch rate! :)) I'd like to give Stripers a try on the long rod this spring so I'll shoot you a Bmail - thanks for the offer.
