New Species* Weight only ** Release onlyNew Leader
[TH]

Will start off the new year standings sometime in mid March when the tourney office puts out its first press release for 2009. The word i've heard is that Mr. Michael W. Whittaker has already caught a larger Speck for 2009 than he won 2008 with. Also the monster Tog that Craig Paige has already landed for this year that I do believe he registered in the program. I know Craig hasn't entered any fish for quite awhile but i'm pretty sure he registered this one.

Incredible difference between the specks & grays. I realize they're cousins and don't share the same waters but that's a huge difference in numbers.

Was there a time when more gray citations were recorded than specks? How recent?

The Gray Trout fishery has been way off for the last 3 or 4 years. Why that is can be debated many ways. As recently as 5 years ago we could catch a 4-7 lb Gray on just about every cast during the run. In the late 70's early 80's a 10 lb Gray was an average fish, many were over 10 lbs.

i beleive the gray trout have fallen victim to the gill net.... and cat food.....

back home in md, from 1999 to 2002 we had awesome gray trout fishing, huge schools, lots of citation sized fish... i canot imagine what that migration south must have looked like back then

Danny.... The expert/master angler list will probably be released next week. Ann has been working on it alot this week but it's alot of work to figure out. Here's a tip for everyone that could make this a much simplier task for her with less errors.... Please use the exact same name on every citation that you fill out. The computer program that she runs to figure this stuff out is looking for exact matches to determine if an angler has 6 species citations for a year. For example... If I filled out one with Rob Holtz, another with Robert Holtz and another with Robert S. Holtz the computer wouldn't recognize those three names as a match. She has to do ALOT of manual searching to confirm who made expert angler. For master angler having to reach 25 it's even more work.

From what I understand Spot have a very short lifespan. There's usually a peak of very large fish every 3 or 4 years. We caught alot of just unders this year while bait fishing.
