We actually are considering building a floating blind as well, started collecting some of the old dock floats, not sure if enough of them will work or not, but that was kinda our idea. Haven't gotten started yet.

Are you looking for a (pop-up) blind to put on a john boat or an actual "floating blind"? I just sold a 16 foot boat with a "northern Flight popup blind with fast grass panels that looks good and provides decent wind protection (but no roof). They are about $400 in Cabelas, I think. Easy to take on or off.

If you want to build a more permanent floating blind, look for a used pontoon boat and build it up from there.

Check out duckhunter.net, the virginia flyway forum, classifieds. A guy posted one for sale on there the other day. Sounds like exactly what you are looking for.
thanks, I'm going to look into that one.

STINK, do you have a link for the one you saw on CL ?? I can't seem to locate it

I think a carolina skiff would be a good stable platform.... still lookin
I was thinking the same thing, but I was told that the Carolina Skiffs were too heavy. They would not go very good in shallow water. Has anyone had any experience with using the skiffs in shallow water. I talking about getting up in creeks or mud flats.
Thanks

Huh? There's really no better boat. There arent many boats that draw less water than a Carolina Skiff. Go see what the waterman on the ocean side of the ES and the Carolina sounds use. Carolina Skiffs for the most part. They make great shallow water duck boats. As for weight if you get stuck, brother if you get that badly stuck on a mudflat with any type of loaded duck boat, your just gonna have to wait a while.

I hunt out of a 24 carolina skiff with a 90 honda. We have the largest mudd buddy blind they make on her. On plane she can run in a foot of water 25 knots, with over a 100 goose decoys 5 hunters and a dog. If you want a big rig that weather cant stop I would have no other. The only problem I have is that you get the boat, motor, blind and some good goose decoys you will have 20,000 in the thing.
