Nice guy and very informative...Chris (Paxfish), you still got the picture that you took when we were down there working on oyster floats????? Pretty cool, that aquaculture stuff.....:yes:and he's done a lot to help the CCA to build and set oyster floats for cleaner creeks and rivers. Tom

Yea man, another voucher for Circle-C. Sat down and chatted with Frank, he sent be back up the road with a few Arsters for Xmas, they certainly didn't last long around my house! You cannot go wrong with the deal either, seems everyone benefits!

Yea Man. This is a four year old that was blown off the Circle C pier during Isabel. I think this one measured in at 9 inches.

You can grow them, for free. $175 for a float of 600, $500 for three floats. The state gives you the $$$ back at the end of the year as a tax credit.

We have 35,000 in the creek now. They were 3inches in three months, and have been filling out and getting thicker since I last measured in October.

Paxfish: can I just buy the floats and hang them off my slip? Is there any maintenance required?

I'd have to get approval from my uptight marina association, but if I get it, I'd like to grow some off my slip. (I'm at the top of Back Creek in Solomons).

Yes you can. From May through Octoer you have to flip them every 3 or 4 weeks for a 48 hour period to kill the algae growth. Other than that, Maintenance free. The floats can freeze into the ice with no ill effect. You need about 2 feet of water at low tide to handle the occasional NW blowout in the bay.

Give Rich Pelz a call at Circle C.

It was truly a privilege to help on that project with my two daughters my brother (whackmaster) and his daughter. A very worthy cause. I have talked to my girls about the 10% rule. That is if we go out on the bay 20 days during the summer we volunteer for a project such as this for 2 days. It teaches responsibility and good stewardship for the things that you enjoy.

This simply cannot be. Oysters don't live that long. They all die of disease if not harvested by 3-years.;-)

thought why fool with a 1/2 doz., but i said sure.
They were all that size.
