Fished friday with a group from Roanoke. They booked me for a half day on friday and a full day on saturday. I advised them that would probably wouldnt catch anything on the half day because I cant get far enough from the inlet on a half day to go find fish right now, but they said they still wanted to go anyways. We trolled from the sandbridge pier to cape henry without a bite or mark on the machine. As I suspected, there wasnt anything to be caught in legal waters close to the inlet. Later in the day, several boats came in with nice catches and the crew that was supposed to fish with me on saturday cancelled and jumped on a boat that would go over the line and fish illegally because we didnt catch anything on our half day- even after I had advised them for a week in advance that there was nothing to catch on a half day. Thats a bad way to lose business, but oh well it happens.

Saturday, instead of fishing, I went to the boat show.

Sunday, I had a group of anglers from Delaware. We ran down the line and when I got a little ways south, I could see a couple nice flocks of birds on the radar. When I got to the first one, the birds were on bait, but not fishy looking. Five mile past the Carolla light and a mile and a half off the beach, more birds and fish. Aside from a john boat, we had it all to ourselves for the first little while. When the fleet got on it, the bite slowed down to a pick but there were still fish to be caught in legal waters. We didnt end the day with a limit, but we had some nice fish 44-46 inches.

Good Report, hope that bait and fish move north real soon. We where out Saturday and enjoyed a beautiful day. I had to stop our southern run at the N.C. border (license) and worked our way back north. Saw nothing, caught nothing, water cold, Gannets swooping but never even saw one hit the water and only saw one of the big charter boats fishing inside at Cape Henry on our way home. Never heard of a single fish being caught by anyone all day between Carola - South and Chincoteague - North except a Dogfish and there was quite a few boats out there from north to south on that beautiful day. At the top if the incoming another boat found a 50" striper floating in and we Saw a 35-40 inch fish float in near the 3 mile line.

:rockingreport: A really nice and truthful report which is therefore useful to all. Thanks for the information. :clapping2:

Wow!! I just reread your report about those who cancelled and jumped on another boat that would go over the line and fish illegally because we didnt catch anything on our half day- even after I had advised them for a week in advance that there was nothing to catch on a half day. Thats a bad way to lose business, but oh well it happens.

I SALUTE YOU SIR!! I heard before that the Charter Captain of the MATADOR was a honest and respected fisherman. Everyone could learn a thing or too from you!! I'm sure more business will come your way. Good Luck in your difficulties and I'm sure you will continue to be a great success.

Finding legal fish close to Rudee is certainly a challenge these days. Glad to see a report from the Matador, keep em coming. As for the charter who jumped ship, you just can't please some people. I know alot of times, my customers who I bend over backwards for are the less appreciative. So don't lose any sleep over that.

Good to hear from you Jake and nice class of fish you got into!:bigfish:

I'm tired of striper fishing and I really want to charter you for the arrival of the flounder at the CBBT. Let us know when you start hearing the buzz on the flatfish.
