IMHO- If there are nets out front, its a GOOD sign. Nobody knows their sonars better than the netters do. They don't put nets over unless they know there are rock around. Its A LOT of work to put a net in / out and these guys wont put them in the water somewhere that fish arent.
If I were you, i'd go STRAIGHT to the nets and do slow circles around them just looking for bait / big marks on the meter. If things look promising then put out the gear and troll around the nets (Not real close but in that area). If you go south PLO / Smith Point is your best bet.
Where fish might be:
3. Charter boats with gear out (not looking) Also give them their space to work
4. Gill nets
If none of the above are present run south zig zagging the channel edges / buoys watching your meter closely until you do notice any of the 4 above. Do not just put the gear out and troll blind, its too cold to not catch fish. Good luck
