After a bonechilling weekend fishing the Frostbite Tourney with not much to show, I decided to try again today with the hopes of at least a little catch & release around the CBBT. I left the dock at 11am with my neighbor Gary and headed for the second island. We arrived to acres of birds about 1/2 mile oceanside of the second. This was the redemption I was looking for
. We spent about an hour and a half jigging 25"-35" rockfish on spinning gear and bucktails...what a blast!! We started to hear some radio chatter about a good bite north of Cape Henry. We decided to check it out and glad we did. Arrived just south of the 4a buoy to "raining gannetts" All we had was our spinning gear so we just rode around and stopped to jig once we marked fish. It didn't take long to get our 4 keepers, with the biggest at 39", which was a blast on the lite tackle! We left
'em biting at around 4pm as it was getting a little windy.
