I am interested in taking my son on some combo crabbing and fishing trips this summer. I have read reports of guys doing this, and they say they use traps. I know I could do a trotline up to 1200', but the DNR site doesn't say too much about traps or pots. It says that traps that close need to do so with some sort of manual force, but that is about it.

So what kind of traps am I allowed to use? I have a few of the traps that you pull up the string and it lifts the sides, but I don't think that is what others are using?

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

They are the traps that you use. 12 x 12 inches, with closing sides. You cannot use the pots which are 2' by 2', unless you have a commercial license or have waterfront property. In that case you are allowed to use 2 per parcel.
