I fish out of Solomons and have had a decent fall season. It seems like there are plenty of big fish in the area and reports have been consistently good.

I've always heard about CBBT being the "go to" place for the winter and I'm seeing a ton or reports from there lately. I'm curious as to what exactly makes it such a draw when there are big fish between the Pax and the Potomac.

I understand that VA has longer season, so it would make sense as a hot destination after 12/31, but what is the draw before then?

Thanks!

Hi MM,

the big draw for us mid bay (ann/ches bch/sol/etc) is the opportunity to catch many nice size stripers with lite tackle and 1-2 oz jigs and rubber, not the heavy troll rods.

that's it plain and simple:D

Your right, there are nice fish to be had up this way for trolling.......try going out and jigging up some of those fish:yes: Without the help of birds, showing big schools of fish, it's tough LTGing. I really get the feeling that alot of these fish off Solomons came down the bay through the [email protected] canal. CBBT should get hotter as these fish move south with the bait.

Martin,

Don't kid yourself, it hasn't always been this good my friend. This has been an exceptional fall. I'm not saying we haven't had good years in the past but the fishing even 4 or 5 years ago from what I can remember wasn't this good. Ask your friend Kyle or some other charters.

The big draw at the CBBT is the light tackle opportunity. Hence the reason for Walleye and those guys running trips out of there.

I think it's pretty phenomenal that Buckner, Turner, Pruitt, and those charters are still running out of Solomans. I bet in the past they moved their boats to PLO or even further south already by now. I think even Brincefield was putting out of Drury's in early December.

Next year might not be as good this late out of Soloman's. Who knows????????? it's just a good year this time.

At CBBT, Can we keep striper over 28" until end of december ? I might be wrong. I thought VA tidalwater reg is different from MD reg. Can someone clarify this?
VA is 2 fish 18-28 or one fish under 28 and one over 34. No fish may be kept from 28-34. This is until 12/20. After that it's one fish a day till 12/31. Then the bay closes and you have to fish the ocean to keep fish. The ocean reg is 2 rock over 28 til 2/28 or 3/30, not sure on the closing date for the ocean.

Well, nothing other than about 150 fish in nearly every conceivable situation the Chesapeake offers. Fish on rocky structure, pilings, beneath gannets & gulls, out in open water, over the shoals, all the while watching nuclear subs, battleships, cruisers, and about any type of military aircraft you can imagine. Oh, and throw in dolphins at daylight. That's just one day.
