When you fish the ASA tournament in VA Beach.
Fished with Lee Tippet Saturday on his 25' Maycraft, Jennifer Rose. We were met with a strong breeze at the first island when ASA tournament control checked us out. Although Lee's 25' Maycraft is no slouch, we were passed by several fully wrapped and sponsored 30'+ center consoles with double and triple motors on the back as they skipped across the top of the 4' waves.
We got around the high rose and dropped the eels overboard. It didn't take long to hook up and we had multiple rods hooked up at the same time several times. At the end of the day we got 18 big fish bites on eels and netted 14 of them in the boat. 10 of them were over 40 inches.
Our two big fish were 30lbs and 34.6lbs for a total 2 fish weight of 64.5 lbs. Overall we pretty much got our arses handed to us as we finished 2 places out of the money in 12'th. I guess it's not too bad when you consider the boats we were up against.
Max King won. His big fish was a 61.5lb whopper! It was the biggest rock fish I have ever seen in person. That man is hard to beat!
