Whats the best, worse, wind direction fishing out of Rudee. Planned on fishing this Sat through Sunday the 1st. Things do not look to good as of now for the weekend and first of the week by NOOA. I'll be fishing out of a 22' Lund. Any help would be appreciated.

She is a deep boat with freeboard at 3 feet. I have fished out of Rudee four times in years past but seas then were then much better than expected as for this weekend and for the first of the week.(5'-7' NOOA)
She has been throught OI inlet and the slot at Cape Lookout on fair to moderate seas with no problems. I'am just trying to get a idea on what is ok running north across the bay or south to the N.C. line if things work out.. No glory hunter here, just looking for past experince from other folks Thanks.

Even with west winds, the further you go off the beach the rougher it will get. Fish 1/2 mile off the beach with a west wind and it'll be flat calm but once you go 2-3 miles offshore, it'll be real choppy if its blowing over 15. I doubt your freeboard is 3'. You want to measure from the waterline to the gunnel. I'd estimate you have no more than 28", if that much. Also, if you are in a bowrider or open bow, I'd be more cautious.

I have a Grady and have stuffed the pulpit and wash the anchor a few times last week.

Just remember those poor guys that had the incident last week.........they were in a small aluminum boat as well.......similar to a Lund I believe........Always better safe than sorry. Better to not fish today and live to fish tomorrow!

Matt, I checked the freeboard this morning, from the top of the gunnel to water line is 32". It is 30'' deep inside at the lowest point and 32' high at the helm and 100'' beam. I also run a bow cover when fishing costal waters, and a full inclosure that seats 4 comfortable including Mr. Heater on cold days The model of my boat is a Baron Magnum/ GranSport 2250, the largest in the Lund line. Many people in these areas are not familier with this type of boat . They are widely used on the Great Lakes because of their rough water handling. As far as comparing it to a Tracker, there is no comparison what ever. Kevin, thanks on the heads up on the phone #. From the looks of the upcoming weather report Sat and Sunday will be to rough. It's a five hour ride up to fish so I'll look at comming later in the week if it turns better. Thanks to ALL for the information so far.
