When trolling, is it better to use wire line or braid when putting mojo's with trailers on the bottom, say 40 to 60 feet.

Also - what size and where do I spool a reel with wire line for stripers?

Thanks

Here is my take on this I firmly believe wire is best especially single strand monel so if you can afford a pair of rods and reels that will only be for wire lining for Striper then go with wire but if you would like to save a few bucks and have a pair of rods that can perform double duty go with braid. In my mind it is not a performance question it's a budget question.

I use TLD 20s for my wire line the line is available at Boater's World 50 lb monel (get the non marked line) or perhaps Princess Anne distributing. Use 50 lb mono or dacron backing joined to the monel via a haywire twist in the wire and an Albright knot.

Wire if you want to fish your mojo rigs real close to the back of the boat. They work a little better than the braid, nor that there is anything wrong with braid line. I have two rods with wire, two with braid and two with mono.

Here is my take:
Lots of opinions on the topic, so it comes down to a personal choice. Here is my personal choice:
Both work fine
If you fish around structure, (such as the over the tubes at the CBBT or HRBT) use wire
If you fish in open water, use braid
Do not fish both at the same time. If wire touches the braid, it will immediately cut through the braid
Do not switch a rod or reel from wire back to braid; most likely, you will have nicked a guide or roller somewhere. If you must switch, run a cotton ball or pair of nylon stockings over every surface the braid may touch. If there is a nick, you will see or feel it in the cotton or nylon.
