fantastic show. Really historic demonstration of diverse technology on the 70th anniversary of VE Day. There is nothing like the sounds of those heavy piston engines flying over at 1000'. Like the remaining WW 2 veterans, this show was one of a disappearing breed of planes and airmanship. Sometimes working downtown is a pain in the neck, but days like to day it is a privilege to watch them, especially as the final wave of Avengers and Corsairs performed the missing man formation as they overflew the Air Force Memorial, Arlington Cemetery, the National WW 2 Memorial, the Pentagon, and all the sights of the Capital of the Free World.
A friend and I cut out at lunch and ran down to Bolling to watch from the banks of the Potomac. Would have liked to be closer, but we got real good views of the B17s and the B29. The guy I went with has a real good base of knowledge of these planes, which made it that much more interesting.
Also interesting was seeing the Potomac teeming with shad, and seeing a guy on the dock at the marina there pull in a big ol' fat catfish.
I told my buddy we were both getting our "porn." Him with the planes, and me with the fish.
