The wind was breezy and the inlet was a little choppy which meant good trout fishing today....We caught speckles up to 16 inches, bluefish up to 7 lbs/,greys were up to 14 inches, spot almost a lb.,sea mullet up to 1.5 lbs....We were discussing how we hadn'tcaught any puppy drum when my buddies rod doubles over.....To much fish for 12 lb. test but the anchor breaks free so we are now mobile (pure luck) he says maybe a really large skate but i notice he is swimming up past the boat and skates dont do that.We are straining our eyes to get a glimpse of this massive fish hoping to just see what it is....I move the boat as to help regain some line when I see a huge golden tail surface bigger then my wrist with another huge golden fish right behind it...Its a drum and it ain't no puppy.Another ten minutes of battling this fish and we finally get a comformation. It is a drum and not your usual puppy eiher its huge.A few failed attempts later I wrangle this monster into the boat.Look at this pic my buddy is over 300 lbs. that is nice drum fellas he was 50 inches long and had a 28 inch girth.
Wow on a Saturday at OI one other boat who left before it layed down this afternoon.A cooler full of very edible fish and a monarch of a drum on 12 lb. test.LIFE IS GOOD..We caught most of our fish on shrimp and cut spot. With a couple on bloodworms and other assorted cut baits....My son a good friend and myself celebrating our good fortunes...
